Make Your Home A Temple

I was out for lunch yesterday with Andrew at the Mesa Cafe in Santa Barbara.

After our meals had arrived I mentioned that I felt a bit odd eating out because I knew the items I had ordered we’re not necessarily up to the Innate Body Boot Camp standards as far as health goes. It wasn’t a complaint, just an observation.

I mentioned how I would like to see more establishments that advertise the fact that they sell locally grown, organic food.

Some might say I sound like a food snob, but I can honestly taste the difference between a tomato from the Santa Barbara Farmer’s Market and one that has been shipped across the country. I can tell when a salad dressing is emulsified with guar gum instead of using real oil.

What is my point in saying all of this?

I asked if it was weird that I was thinking about all of these things when going out to eat. I mean, I’m supposed to be enjoying a meal out, right?! (I was enjoying myself, I promise.)

But if I’m to be very honest about it, probably 90% of food establishments in Santa Barbara don’t serve items that meet all of the criteria in the Innate Body Nutrition Plan that we give to all of our members.

But then Andrew said something that I found very profound.

“When you go out you should get what you want and enjoy it, knowing that your home is a temple. You only let the best food into your temple, so when you do enjoy a meal out you can partake without reservation.”

The analogy that your home is a temple, a place of worship, a place where only the most pure and sufficient things are allowed to be is brilliant!

Your home is your baseline for good fitness.

If your home is a temple you only bring the highest quality “offerings” inside. These “offerings” can take the form of foods, thoughts, people, and things.

I’m looking at my home now through different eyes.

If this were a place of worship what would add and what would I remove?

Home should be a place where we can go and truly relax, reset, recuperate, rest and heal.

What things do you bring inside your temple? Do they help you relax, reset, recuperate, rest and heal?

Do you choose to feed your mind with positive thoughts before bed or do you watch TV?

Do you stock your refrigerator with fresh, local, sustainable food or with frozen dinners?

Do you choose to buy those things that ADD HEALTH or those that subtract health?

Your home plays a HUGE role in your health and fitness level. You deserve to come home each day to place that helps you be the best person you can be, in all aspects.

With that in mind, look at the people, things, thoughts and food that you allow into your home. Are they helping you or hindering you?

When your home is your temple of health (in all forms) you can go out and not worry about falling off the horse and not being able to get back on. All you have to do is go home and you’ll be right back on track.

What things do you do to make your home a temple of health and fitness?

Rest assured, both Mesa Cafe & Cody’s Cafe are owned by friends of mine and they are supplied with organic fresh veggies grown locally!

Thanks for this post! It is a good reminder of how to approach the care of my home as well as my body. I really apreciate it! I have a similar experience with restaurants around town and know which ones I can go to and which to avoid as well as what to order. Fresco has alot of organic and local ingredients and for the “shi shi upscale meal”, Square One is dedicated to local and organic.

What feels good in my home right now is that I don’t have a television and I so appreciate the peace and quiet as well as the view out my window. Its cool to watch the sky and the trees change throughout the seasons. I also find that I like to go and visit friends when I feel the need rare need to see a tv show and that makes it a fun social occasion!

Cody’s is a favorite of mine, though I find it hard to believe the f&v’s are local and organic so I will take that into account.

Natural Cafe is about the only reasonably priced restaurants left around here so it is nice they happen to healthy too! I LOVE their food…. and the Hitchcock site is so beautiful.

Nice post Casey, the brother has some pearls doesn’t he! I have been treating my home as such for the last few years without thinking about it, but now that you bring it to light, there are definitely some cob webs that I will shine a light on.

good work fellas, can’t wait to be out there with you
