Health Food Myths: Meal Replacement Bars

In this video I tell you what you need to watch out for in all those “health food bars” out there.

Here’s the short list:

  • High Fructose Corn Syrup: Diabetes, ADD, Weight Gain, The Mid-Day Crash…the list goes on
  • Corn Syrup: Avoid this and products with other syrups used as added sweetener to cut down on the refined sugars.
  • Trans Fats: Anything with hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated in the title WILL CONTAIN SOME TRANS FATS EVEN IF THE LABEL SAYS OTHERWISE.
  • Soy: Potent anti-nutrient and hormone disruptor.
  • Protein Isolates: High temperature drying creates cancer causing compounds like nitrates
  • MSG & Artificial Sweeteners: The former is a neurotoxic flavor enhancer and the second (aspartame, sucralose, saccharin etc.) haven’t been tested and are known to be toxic.

More coming on each of these topics very soon. Be a conscious consumer and READ THE LABEL. This goes for just about anything you buy. Hopefully most of your grocery list comes without a package, but if some items do its up to you to make the best choices.

Keep a sharp eye!

What? I have been fooled by marketing. I thought the PURE bar was ok. I’ll stick to the Larabar from now on.

This is the best info!!! Many folks need to know the same type of low down concerning power drinks, power water, pump you up drinks, many feel they are benefiting over good old water. I’m sure some that have electrolytes are bueno, tell me something about Gatorade!?!

Thank you Sammy, glad you found it insightful.

The sports drinks are for the most part unnecessary. They sell very well and are easy to market, which is why you see them everywhere. However, we don’t need to dose our bodies with massive amounts of sugar before, during, and after a workout because we aren’t depleting our reserves like, say, a marathoner or ultra runner would.

For the average person working to stay fit, sports drinks take them backwards, not forwards.

    Thank you for the comment!
