Do these sound familiar? If you’ve ever waited in a grocery store checkout line, then you’ve read these. In fact, you’ve probably read them multiple times.

Part of what we do at Innate Body Boot Camp is present to you the very best fitness and fat loss information to get you the best results possible. What that often entails however, is refuting a lot of the fitness misinformation out there.

The headlines at the top of this blog post all come from health and fitness industry magazines, one of the major sources of health and fitness misinformation.

I get curious all the time how these magazines come up with 1,583 Cool Health, Fitness, Sex And Nutrition Tips one month and then 1,743 Style, Sex, Health And Fitness Tips the next month. That seems like an awful lot of tips – and if they work, why do we need more of them the next month?

As it turns out, these headlines are recycled (as well as the content). I found an interesting post a while back that exposed Men’s Health Magazine for rerunning covers. The authors kindly created a collection of the covers, like the one below.

The chief editor even admits that they’ve found certain covers that work really well to, you guessed it, sell more copies, and that’s why they reuse these covers over and over…..and over…..and over.

Here’s the thing with good, solid health and fitness information: 1) It doesn’t change, at all really, because we as humans are the same year to year and 2) it’s quite boring really – the only way to sell more of it is to dress it up differently or, in the case of misinformation, lie.

Now we’re not innocent either. Andrew and I dress up the health and fitness information that we present to you guys in order to make it enjoyable and maximally effective. We do not, however, make stuff up. It’s because there is so much made-up fitness information out there that a lot of people find themselves on dead end streets when it comes to progressing with their fitness.

So next time you’re in the grocery checkout line and your eyes start rolling over the headlines of the magazine stand, remember that those covers are designed to sell copies. They don’t have 1,293 new tips each month (because they were in last year’s issue). Just take a look at your grocery basket and you’ll know whether or not you’re on track or not.
